The different physical and sport activities –from now on manifestations of motor skills– which are part of the societies culture are the reference in the professional, scientific and academic field of this degree.

The development of the sports and the popularisation of the sports practice as a socio-cultural phenomenon in line with the economic development and growth resulting of the Welfare state.

The complexity of this sport system -sport training, physical-sport recreation, physical activity and health, and physical education- requires specific organisation and management forms which require an specific professionalisation to produce business succeed and social satisfaction. On the other hand, the educative system considers the physical education as a fundamental discipline in the development and improvement of the human being.

It is noteworthy that the employability of the graduated in Physical Activity and Sports Science is one of the higher in the current degrees offer.

These new social realities are justifying a Bachelor’s Degree proposal in which the contents balance the knowledge on Physical Education teaching, the sport training, the physical activity for health and the management and sport recreation.

In 1966 the Council of Europe highlights the importance of sport as a promotional item in the continuing education.

The Law 7/1985, of April 2, regulator of the Bases of the Local Regime establishes that the city councils will develop their sport services. In this context the areas of management, health, leisure time, training and teaching addressed in this Bachelor’s Degree appear.

The teaching of Physical Education in Compulsory Secondary Education must be exclusively taught by the graduated in this subject (preliminary bill on the regulation of the exercise of certain sports professions, July 3, 2007).

The Law 3/2008, of April 23, on the exercise of sports professions (Autonomous Community of Catalonia) establishes the competences of the graduated in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences or the corresponding Bachelor’s Degree. In the Autonomous Community of Galicia there is a decree which establishes that in the sport facilities there has to be a graduated person from Physical Education working.

On the other hand, different reports confirm that sport on the following years will be a strong invigorating and creator of employment, and that its activity has to be regulated through a complete legal framework.

In the current degrees catalogue there is a five-year degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences in the University of Vigo, which is turning into the proposed Degree. This same Degree is taught in another 26 Spanish universities, of which 18 are public universities and 8 are private.
